Commander Kel Tavathe was a Kel bannermoth commander who served during the Siege of the Fortress of Scattered Needles. Tavathe appears in Ninefox Gambit.

Tavathe commanded Spiders and Scars. The bannermoth took serious damage to its life support systems at the beginning of the swarm's assault on the no-longer-protected Fortress.
When Brevet General Kel Cheris addressed the swarm's servitors and asked them to volunteer to fight in formation with the Kel on the Fortress, a snakeform servitor from Spiders and Scars noted that while the numbers were straightforward, the odds of retrieval were minimal, but ultimately called the plan "absurd, but workable."[1]
